On September 29th, the European Patent Office (EPO) upheld US-based BREONICS' European Patent No. 1021084, which relates inter alia to a proprietary organ transplant system known as the Exsanguinous Metabolic Support (EMS).

BREONICS Perfusion Technologies, Inc. (PFTI) a wholly owned subsidiary of BREONICS, Inc. will work closely with the governing Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) to establish EMS treatment centers at each of the pivotal clinical trial sites. Following regulatory approval each EMS treatment center will be able to provide immediate EMS services for kidney procurement to the OPO under contractual arrangements.
